Brow Lift

  • cosmetic

An aging forehead and drooping brows can be caused by gravity, sun exposure, previous episodes of swelling or weight loss.
This procedure is used to raise the appearance of an aged and sagging forehead. A brow lift will elevate the eyebrows, reduce and soften forehead wrinkles and reduce hooding of the eyelids.
Procedure
We use three basic techniques for brow lifts:

  • Subcutaneous
  • Endoscopic
  • Brow Suture Pexy

Pre-Operative Preparation

  • Allow enough time for recovery, there will be bruising and swelling for up to 2 weeks.
  • Typically, cover-up makeup can usually be applied after 5 to 7 days.
  • All makeup should be removed prior to arriving for surgery.
  • Avoid blood thinners, tanning and smoking 14 days prior to surgery. (See Pre -Operative Instructions)
  • Bring sunglasses day of surgery to wear home.

Post Operative Reasonable Expectations
Seventy to 80% improvement in reduction of tired, fatigued-looking eyes and a youthful position of the eyebrows.

Pre-Operative Instructions

  1. Please see the enclosed medication list with respect to avoiding medications that can contribute to bleeding particularly including aspirin.
  2. Smoking should be discontinued prior to surgery and for at least two weeks after surgery as it decreases healing and oxygenation.
  3. Please shower the morning of surgery. Do not use conditioner on your hair.
  4. You may have a light non-fat meal at least eight hours prior to surgery, if you desire. Otherwise, do not eat or drink after midnight the day before surgery.
  5. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
  6. A friend or family member should be with you to bring you to the office and drive you home afterwards. Plan to be in the office from one to five hours depending on the amount of area that is involved. You will not be allowed to drive home if you have had any type of sedation during surgery.
  7. Please be sure you have met any financial obligations if your surgery is elective cosmetic surgery not covered by insurance, or refractive surgery. Payment is expected in full five days prior to surgery, unless your insurance covers your procedure. System Optics/Cosmetic Surgical Arts accepts cash, Mastercard, VISA, Discover, bank checks or money orders. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
  8. Pre-operatively, if you have questions please call the office between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm during the week. Post-operatively, you may call the doctor on call at any time.
  9. Bring all medications you take with you on the day of surgery for us to verify.
  10. Normally, you may take blood pressure medications and heart medications (except Coumadin) the morning of surgery with a sip of water. Taking your blood pressure and heart medication will help with surgery.
  11. Please do not wear any makeup or jewelry. Please remove all nail polish.
  12. Please take all prescribed medication after surgery as directed, until gone.

Post-Operative Instructions

  1. Apply ice bags or frozen corn in bag as continuously as possible for the first 36 hours (20 minutes every hour). Begin using heat by applying a moist washcloth or hot water bottle for 20 minutes, 2 times a day after 48 hours.
  2. Elevate head (use 2-3 pillows or sleep in a recliner chair) after eyelid surgery for the first 2 nights.
  3. Apply ointment to incisions three times a day. Apply small amount in the eyes at bedtime. Your vision will be blurry when ointment is used.
  4. No make-up to incisions for three weeks.
  5. No strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours, then normal activity unless otherwise directed.
  6. Bathing and hair washing may resume immediately. Avoid direct shower pressure on all incisions.
  7. No aspirin or aspirin products for one week after your operation. (Tylenol may be used)
  8. Clean incisions gently with moist cotton balls as needed.
  9. Use pain medications as directed.
  10. Use all other medications as directed.
  11. Avoid bumping the incision sites.
  12. Call Novus Clinic at 330-630-9699 at any time of the day or night if problems or questions should arise.
  13. Call the office today or tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. regarding your follow-up appointment if you have not received one already.
